Tonight I finished up what I believe to be the last remaining todo items to finish migrating the forums to our new host at DigitalOcean. I think we are now at feature parity with the old site. And we have a new feature: email to create posts. You can now send an email to the category name A|T uhacc.club. If the name has spaces, just smash the words together, and use lower case. And since you can also reply by email, you can theoretically use the entire site completely via email.
I'm working on some additional stuff to allow free signups to use the shell without giving random folks free reign over the system. You can expect the details on that to show up in the Lounge. My plan is to allow more interesting features to folks as they reach the various levels of participation on the site.
My current thoughts on the privileges at each level are outlined below. Generally, you increase your level via participation on the site. (The levels are determined by the forum software, though progression is configurable.)
Level 0:
- Newly signed up account
- Limited primarily to creating posts or replies
Level 1:
- Spent some time on the site or
- Invited by another user
Level 2:
- Ability to request an email address forwarded somewhere
Level 3:
- Ability to self-create limited ssh access
- Access to the Lounge
Level 4:
- More ssh access, up to full shell
